Vitamin D Helps Ease Symptoms of Depression

According to a new meta-analysis of 41 studies involving 53,235 people, taking Vitamin D supplements can relieve depressive symptoms in people already diagnosed with depression, opening up a potential alternative option for treatment.

With depression now recognized as the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting over 280 million of us every year, and antidepressants not effective for everyone, more treatment options need to be explored urgently.

To be clear, researchers don't go so far as to say that low vitamin D levels cause depression, or that supplements are an effective treatment. Here at Vie 4 Health we believe that vitamins represent an important part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. That's why we include 20 micrograms (mcg) of Vitamin D3 in our Vie vitamin + energy powder.

As you can read at our Ingredients page. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium (one of bone’s main building blocks) from food and supplements. People who get too little vitamin D may develop soft, thin, and brittle bones, a condition known as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Vitamin D is important in many other ways as well. Muscles need it to move, nerves need it to carry messages between the brain and other parts of the body, and the immune system needs vitamin D to fight off invading bacteria and viruses. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis.

So be sure to get enough Vitamin D, either through your diet or, more conveniently, through Vie 4 Health!
